This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an Academic Interventionist, I work with third graders who struggle with reading and mathematics. My students are mainly Multi Language Learners, and because English is not their first language, learning is even more difficult for them. For many of my students, English is not spoken in the home, so they are not able to rely on family members for extra guidance and support. This is why intervention is so important! It is my job to not only teach the material but to find effective, fun, and creative ways to present the material.

Using games, crafts, and hands-on activities ensures that ALL of my scholars are engaged and invested in our lessons.

Science shows that using multisensory activities--particularly with MLLs--is a key component for growth in language development. I personally know this to be true, since I use a multisensory approach to both my Reading and Math intervention lessons. My students have always shown tremendous growth in both their state and district diagnostic test results. The supplies that I am requesting are basic tools that we will use for all of our crafts and hands-on activities.

Unfortunately, because I am an Academic Interventionist and not a "homeroom" teacher, I am not alloted any funds to purchase supplies for my classroom. Supplies like markers, colored pencils, colored paper, and cardstock are items that I purchase with my own money. I also purchase many templates and activities from Teachers Pay Teachers. TPT assists me with many creative ideas while helping other teachers in the process. I am also requesting cleaning and organizational supplies that I would normally purchase, as well. Because so many of these items have increased greatly in price over the past year, I am in need of assistance this school year to give my kids the instruction they deserve.
