Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a teacher in a Title One school in an area where my kids face a lot of obstacles at home and at school. Many of my students are English language learners. A majority of my students also receive free or reduced-price lunch.

I call my mom and dad on my way to school every day, and my mom always ends our call by saying, "Okay, love those kids today!" I take this to heart because I know that my students come into my classroom with many needs and worries on their minds.

My goal every day is to give them to freedom to just be kids when they are in my room.

My students are fun-loving, gregarious, kind and curious. Not a day goes by that one of my students doesn't manage to blow me away with some new creative idea or hilarious commentary on a lesson. I want the absolute best for my students and I am hoping that I can achieve that goal in part by posting projects here on Donors Choose.

My Project

I have a group of creative and artistic students who love to take pride in their finished products. Unfortunately, the majority of my coloring and craft supplies are from my first year of teaching! My kiddos haven't complained - they have forged ahead with black markers that look more like blue, and red markers that look more like pink. Their posters, thank you cards, science notebooks, and math models are beautiful displays of their hard work and creative thinking. However, the kids really have to struggle to complete this work as they swap out dry markers for slightly less dry markers, and clench stubs of crayons!

I want my students to be able to look back at their work and remember only the teamwork and learning that went into it, rather than the frustration of using old supplies.

Please help give my students a bright future by supplying them with brightly colored supplies that allow their innovations, ideas, and thoughts to truly shine. Having these brand new Crayola markers, crayons, colored pencils, and Elmer's glue sticks will be motivating and exciting for them - I can't wait to see what they create!
