My Students

I have 62 eager fifth graders. They come to my class to learn about science. They are always excited to come through the door, often saying, "I can't wait to see what we're going to do today!"

Often, coming to school is the safest, most predictable part of my students' day.

We have a high poverty rate and more times than not, I use my own money to make our classroom a warm and inviting environment for my students. I'm constantly amazed at how excited my students get about hands-on activities that teach them about their world and universe.

My Project

We use interactive notebooks daily to help reinforce concepts and vocabulary words that are important to what we are learning. The students often cut out and glue paper with key concepts and words into their interactive notebooks.

Using bright, colorful paper helps keep students interested in what they are learning.

My students will often comment on how much better their interactive notebooks look when we get to use colorful paper.

Not only is it more fun to use, but bright, colorful paper also helps students remember key concepts and vocabulary words when they have something like a color to trigger their memories.
