Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At the beginning of the year, when I ask students what their favorite subject is, Language Arts is rarely one of them. Some even assert that reading is boring and that they aren’t good at reading and writing. Every day I attempt to ease their apprehension and expose them to a variety of texts and genres. I try to show them that it is not that “reading is boring”, but instead they have not found the right book.
In a generation driven by technology, how can one compete with cell phones and video game consoles?
When my students pick up a book, I'd like them to be exposed to new experiences, to enter a new realm of creativity and imagination, and to place themselves in the shoes of the character the same as they would in a video game.
A classroom library in middle school is crucial as it fosters a love for reading, provides easy access to a variety of books, promotes independent learning, and enhances literacy skills.
In my classroom, students are encouraged to pick up a book and explore the powerful impact of words. However, I noticed that my classroom library is somewhat outdated. It can use some updating to keep up with the times and topics that interest my students. While many of them are reluctant readers, I am hoping that these meticulously chosen books will spark their interest. Many of the books I have selected are either: a best seller, a part of a series, or reflect various cultural backgrounds.
