Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Walk into any classroom at our elementary school and you will be greeted by smiling faces. Each classroom is a melting pot of different cultures, home languages, and personalities. What ties our community of learners together is their love of learning and desire to grow as a group.

My class is comprised of wonderful fourth graders who are enthusiastic learners!

Most students in my class are children of immigrant families where Spanish, Korean, and various other home languages are represented.

My school is a Title I school, meaning the majority of my students are on a free or reduced price lunch plan. While we have worked hard within our four walls to foster a love of learning, many of my students lack technology at home to learn 21st century skills.

Adding iPads with protective cases to my classroom will provide even more opportunities for my students to succeed!

The iPads will be used during small group rotation to provide targeted, differentiated support in a way that maximizes engagement and learning outcomes. It will allow for the use of fun and engaging educational apps that tailor lessons to individual students’ needs!

The iPads will help maximize instructional time during small group rotations. While one group works with me, another group can independently work on programs to help support them in gaining grade level skills.

In addition, these iPads will provide support for students who need accommodations to help them access instruction. They will provide access to assistive technology like text-to-speech and speech-to-text. My students with dyslexia could use the text-to-speech function to hear the text read aloud to them, while students with difficulty expressing themselves in writing could use voice-to-text apps to dictate their responses. This will allow all of my students to access content at their own level and pace.
