Not only can reading be fun and adventurous, it is one of the best strategies for supporting a child academically. Reading to a child helps to develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word while stimulating their imagination and expanding their understanding of the world. While in school, students have regular access to books, being read to, and having book conversations. However, often when students go home, they do not have quality books to stimulate and engage them.
This project will provide students with a copy of the stimulating and engaging book that reoccurs throughout our themes to take home.
Each of our unit of studies has a reoccurring book that is read multiple times throughout, building on students knowledge and thought process. Providing students with a copy of the book to take home with them will encourage them to continue to read, retell the story, and have new conversations this their families about what they are learning in school. The Three Little Pigs book will support our study on Buildings. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom will support our tree unit. And the letter and count books will support our letter and number recognition that we will do throughout the school year.
