Bridging Reading Foundational Skills

My Project

Funding of this project would allow me to acquire and develop quality instruction for my students who have reading deficits and/or dyslexia. Students will be given whole group instruction that is centered around phonemic awareness and phonic skills. These lessons can also be implemented by a classroom teacher or interventionist.

Students will have workbooks that provide "I can" statements to help identify learning objectives for students, application for letter formation as a sound-spelling relationship is introduced, weekly practice with 34 passages that are 80+% decodable, and ample practice with Red Words, decoding, and encoding.

The curriculum includes a speech-to-print focus, multisensory instructional strategies, daily differentiated instruction, and engaging, instructive, meaningful decodable passages and decodable readers, with standards-based assessment.

These resources will greatly help 1st-grade students develop foundational skills that are needed to read texts. This will help all students including our struggling readers and high achieving.
