Bridging Cultures: Popular Books Translated for Spanish-Speaking Students

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having books in both English and Spanish allows students to share the same stories and experiences. This project aims to foster a stronger sense of belonging, as Spanish-speaking students will be able to participate in conversations about the same books as their peers, regardless of language barriers. When students read the same stories, they’re able to connect on a deeper level, build unexpected friendships, and form community.

Moreover, providing access to books in Spanish helps Spanish-speaking students embrace their cultural identity while expanding their understanding of the world around them.

They can explore familiar topics in a language they are comfortable with which boosts their confidence and encourages meaningful discussions.

By creating a space where all students can engage with the same content, we empower them to participate in classroom activities, share their thoughts, and develop friendships based on mutual interests. This shared literary experience can strengthen the classroom community, making it a place where all cultures are celebrated.
