My Students
I teach students from a wide range of experiences & backgrounds. The one thing they all have in common is that they have a story to tell. Some of my students are new to this country, many of them have fled countries where violence is common. Our hope is to use this camera to collect their stories.
I teach college prep seniors, English Language Learner (Ell) freshman, psychology, and student government.
Our school is very diverse and we always are trying to find ways to help students feel they fit in. We are in the process of creating a club where we will pair students who were born and raised in the US with students who are new to our country. Although the camera will be used in class specific assignments, it can also be used by this club to help make testimony videos of personal student experiences, take still pictures of club events, and help students create projects that tell their story.
My Project
The DSLR camera we are asking for will help our students tell their story. Our hope is to use the camera we are requesting to create "student stories" where students can share about their experiences. Also, this camera will be used by students to complete projects and school assignments that require a camera. Many of our students don't have access to technology like an advanced DSLR camera. In addition to using this camera with our EL students and associated club, we will also use it for our school video team. Our video team is called Orange Nation TV and they can utilize this camera to create content for student activities.
Our school, like many, is short on technology.
The opportunity for students to have access to a quality digital camera will help them create content that will enrich our entire school community. This camera will be used a great deal by many students who might never have had an opportunity to use a high quality digital camera.
