Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In our room hangs a large, hand-painted sign that reads, "The future of the world is in this classroom." In spite of the adversaries my students face, I have no doubt our future is in good hands. Our classroom has a wide range of learners, each differing in academic abilities and learning styles. My students love to explore topics hands-on, an experience beyond their world virtually, and work through challenging material together. While our students need so much, our funding is limited.
My Project
More than half of the students in my class are reading far below grade level. With these texts, my students will be able to build confidence in reading while at the same time experiencing that 'lost in the story' feeling they crave. These texts are more age-appropriate for older struggling readers. Our current available texts are geared towards younger readers, only making it more obvious to the child and their peers how far behind they are. This project will help these kids learn to read while preserving their dignity.
