This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Brick by Brick: Building Stories Through LEGO project combines STEM, literacy, and artistic expression to create a unique storytelling experience. High school students will use LEGO sets to build scenes that serve as the foundation for original picture books. These books will feature photographs of the LEGO scenes alongside student-written narratives, encouraging both visual and written storytelling.

Throughout the project, students will engage in the full creative process: brainstorming story ideas, constructing detailed LEGO models, capturing high-quality images, and writing engaging narratives suitable for young readers.

Upon completion, the books will be printed and shared with elementary students in our district through classroom visits and library collections. This initiative not only enhances high school students' literacy and communication skills but also inspires younger students with engaging, student-created stories.

Funding from this grant will support the purchase of LEGO sets, a vital first step in this process. By combining hands-on creativity with literacy development, this project fosters collaboration, innovation, and a love of storytelling across grade levels.
