My Project
A classroom business coffee shop provides students with autism a valuable opportunity to develop important life skills in a practical, real-world setting. One of the primary benefits is building financial literacy, as students learn to handle money, make change, and track transactions. These hands-on experiences are crucial for understanding financial concepts that can be challenging to grasp in traditional classroom settings. By running a business, students also gain a sense of responsibility and independence, while learning essential social skills like interacting with customers and working as part of a team.
In addition to these skills, the coffee shop business allows the community to contribute in meaningful ways.
Donations of coffee, supplies, and other products directly support the students' business, helping them understand how supply chains work and the importance of managing resources. By requesting donations, students are actively involved in fundraising and resource management, giving them ownership over their business while fostering connections with the community. These experiences are instrumental in preparing students for life beyond the classroom, empowering them with skills they can use in future work and social environments.
