Breathe for Change Enhancing Student and Educator Well-being!
I need financial assistance for a 200-hour SEL*F and yoga teacher training so that I can bring more social-emotional learning practice, wellness, and yoga to the staff, students, and families in my school district.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am dedicated to my students’ overall well-being. Mindfulness, meditation, mindset shifts, and SEL have been instrumental in helping me to create a safe and supportive learning environment conducive to high levels of success. My students love using the glitter jar to calm their minds and bodies, blowing bubbles to release negative thoughts as they watch them float away, and breathing deeply to get into their calm bodies, peaceful minds, and kind hearts. When students feel safe and supported, they are more willing to take learning risks as they try something new and embrace mistakes to view them as opportunities that help them learn and grow.
The past couple of years have created hardships for so many.
My students are trying to make sense of their ever-changing world. Many are stuck in a constant state of stress. Wellness should be the top priority on everyone’s list. I am seeking certification through the Breathe For Change training program. I will be able to enhance my skills to facilitate wellness and social-emotional learning as well as teach inclusive and trauma-informed yoga in the classroom and community. I am fortunate to work in all five elementary schools in my district, which allows me to connect with many students and colleagues. I cannot wait to start my training!
