Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with an amazing group of special education students in a building that is primarily Spanish speaking. They are amazingly hard workers and even though academics are a challenge for them, they still put forth great effort. The last five or so years has been very difficult in the neighborhood that I work in. Fear of ICE, being detained simply because they are Hispanic, and through the pandemic, our students have gone through many events that can be classified as trauma. And yet, my students have continued to come out on top.
The students at our school are so resilient, and continue to put their best foot forward, no matter the situation.
My Project
Professional growth and learning is something that is a vital part of my job as an educator. Over the last year, I spent much of my time outside of school working towards a Masters Degree in Trauma in School Settings. Now I want to build and improve on that practice.
Breathe For Change offers an amazing 6 month, 200 hour program that allows teachers to learn skills and gain certifications that will benefit not only themselves and their students, but their district and community at large.
Students come to us to learn everything about math, reading, science, and social studies that they can - and yet we fail to instruct them on emotions, feelings, and ways that they can deal with difficult situations. B4C's Digital 200-hour Wellness, SEL and Yoga Teacher Training would allow my to build on my knowledge and have new tools and tricks available to me when supporting my students.
