Breathe for Change and Wellness for All

I need financial support to attend Mindfulness, SEL, and Yoga teacher training to incorporate these practices into my curriculum delivery.

My Project

I am very excited to take the Breathe for Change Mindfulness, Social Emotional Learning, and Yoga Teacher training. I am a middle school counselor and I work with many students who struggle with anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation. I counsel them individually and in small groups, and I can give them tools, such as decatastrophizing, but like many of us, our students have lost their ability to be present, original, whole, energized, and resilient. I would love to effectively incorporate mindfulness, social emotional learning strategies, and yoga poses into my counseling. In our county, we offer a yoga course at the high school level, but not at the middle school level. I would love to be able to even offer yoga as a club during Advisory to remove the barrier to accessing clubs that our students who are in our STEM Magnet program face due to their lengthy ride home after school. I would also like to offer Yoga to our staff before and after school. I currently hold a Les Mills Body Balance certification and I offer that to teachers on Friday mornings, but it is a scripted program and is rather intense for the beginner Yogi. I would love to be able to provide yoga that is accessible to all. I also would love to be able to share strategies and practices with staff that they can use to make their classrooms more trauma-informed. I really feel like our entire school could benefit from the knowledge I can share and the resources I can provide upon completing this training and maybe I would even inspire more of our staff to complete the training themselves!
