Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing individuals! There is never a day when they don't amaze me with their kindness, capacity to learn, and excitement to explore. Unfortunately, some of the children in the class are living in situations that cause lots of stress and anxiety. Families torn apart at borders, language development challenges, poverty, food insecurity, housing insecurity are just a few of their daily hurdles. How can we expect these scholars to meet our expectations if they think about where their next meal is coming from or if their family is safe; what can we do to help them feel protected and secure?
These students are mathematicians, authors, artists, speakers, in short- inspiration leaders!
My students are change makers with power beyond measure! Even with all the challenges that they face, my kiddos ignite their peers with positivity and bring about change in their world.
My Project
These community-focused trainings are specifically designed to support educators in transforming themselves, their relationships, and their communities. The people I serve are a historically underrepresented community of amazing people. Often times they are overlooked or purposefully left out when conversations around mindfulness and wellbeing are taking place, when in fact they are in great need of access to these life changing tools. Many of the topics covered in the course are the powerful mind-body wellness practices like yoga/mindful movement, mindfulness, and breathwork which will transform how students learn about self-care, social-emotional learning, and community building strategies that positively impact our lives, classrooms and schools.
Breathe For Change’s training empowers educators and community leaders as champions of well-being in their lives, classrooms, and communities, specifically communities of color.
This training teaches educators the foundations of yoga and mindfulness practices in a culturally relevant and compassionate manner. It targets cultural appropriation and how students can use these mindfulness tools to enact change in the community. The training also prepares educators to meet the social-emotional needs of young people and adults, especially important in the return to school this year. We all have experienced a traumatic event this past year and a half, some have had compounded trauma specifically centering around race and poverty and this class will help in giving students tools to better manage the effects of continued and compounded stress and trauma.
