Breakout Space Revamp, Part 2

Help me give my students a Chromebook, a mobile workstation, bookcases, and stress balls, and chess games for an awesome learning environment in the Breakout Spaces.

My Students

Our school is a middle/high school in the urban area of Maryland. We focus on educating our students to become great leaders and citizens. Students are celebrated for exhibiting our school's core values: integrity, scholarship, citizenship, perseverance, and sustainability.

My students learn best through real-world applications, hands-on activities, and authentic experiences.

They work super hard and they are eager to learn. I teach students with diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds. My students are in various grade levels, but they all thrive when they get to "do" science!

For the 2021-2022 school year, I am teaching AP Seminar, AP Research, and Independent Study: Science. STEM/STEAM hands-on activities, cross-curricular projects, and laboratory investigations help my students to learn and apply concepts.

Having experiences dealing with research in high school will better prepare them for their future college and career choices. AP Seminar and AP Research allow them to explore themes, develop and refine their reading and writing skills, earn college credit, and so much more. Independent Study: Science allows them to explore topics within science that are interesting to them. I am so excited to be teaching these courses!

My Project

My school is blessed with "breakout spaces" - some of the walls are dry erase and students can work out problems, discuss ideas, and interact with each other outside of the classroom. My students enjoyed solving crime scenes, working as a group, and many more activities in previous years!

We want to revamp these breakout spaces to be comfortable, safe learning environments and space to decompress when needed.

To do this, flexible seating using the mobile workstation and Chromebook is necessary. Puffer stress balls and water bead stress balls will be accessible to students. These stress balls are a strategy that helps my students manage their stress, which will help to support their mental health. Chess game sets would add another option for learning and engagement. Bookcases are needed to store items such as stress balls in baskets, books, and games.

This is a school-wide initiative that will positively impact all of our students!
