Today's students are distracted and bored. They want instant gratification. They lack intrinsic motivation and critical thinking. It is unfortunate that even though today's classrooms are full of technology, many students lack the ability to experience creativity and fun. Testing is typically a high priority and learning using innovative ways is often put on the back burner.
Engaging students in fun, creative, hands-on, critical thinking activities will encourage and motivate learning.
They need something that allows them to work together; to still be kids! They need something fun yet still educational! Every minute within the classroom is precious, but there is no reason why students cannot be having fun while practicing skills and standards!
My Project
These BreakOut EDU kits will help take our 5th grade to the next level! Our students are always asking, "When will we use this?!" Well... BreakOut EDU allows our students to apply their skills from the classroom! Real-life escape rooms aid in critical thinking, teamwork, and communication, and the application within the classroom is the same!
Our classrooms are full of leaders, thinkers, and team players, and these escape room classroom activities allow students to shine!
We often see students stunted in critical thinking and a large portion of education is not just applying a skill but being able to explain and extend understanding! Classrooms rely on individual abilities and teamwork, and working within an escape room helps highlight students strengths and identify areas of improvement!
Each student enters the classroom a separate individual, however, once they are set to "escape" they become one unit; working on a single objective! They must communicate with their fellow escapees; sharing their prior knowledge, their current skills, and even life experiences. The more they experience these opportunities, they start to see the necessary skills needed to accomplish the objectives! It isn't just the math, science, or ELA standards, but much more!
