My Students

My students thoroughly enjoy music and technology class, especially when we get to solve a challenge! The students have been using problem-based learning throughout the year to engage, motivate and inspire learning. Providing the students with real life applications to traditionally mundane tasks has greatly improved student participation and understanding.

I want Breakout EDU kits for my students to use in order to continue to provide them with real life results with content in my music and technology classrooms.

My students come from very diverse social and economic backgrounds, which limit the experiences they receive outside of the school day. It is my goal to bring the students as much joyous learning as I can, to keep them excited about learning and about school.

My Project

The students have been using problem-based learning throughout the school year and are thriving with this style of learning. With these Breakout kits, the students are given a locked box and some clues that help them open the locks on the box, which then lead to more locks and more clues.

The students have to answer content based questions through the use of problem solving and collaboration with their team to solve each set of locks at a time.

This gives them a real life application to content that wouldn't necessarily have a traditional application. The students are limited to a certain amount of time to complete the task, making the activity even more exciting! When we have tried these activities in class, the students finished the lesson with cheering and high fives.

They were so excited to complete the task, that they didn't realize I was assessing their understanding of the content. It was amazing to see! I know that with quality resources, we can further this activity and incorporate it into learning more frequently than with the current low quality resources I pulled together to try.
