Students come to my classroom from all walks of life. Some have been given the opportunity to travel the world with their military families, and others have never left the town they live in. I teach special education students, English language learners, college prep students, and honors level students.
Our school is Title I.
100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some students can't afford to buy the necessary supplies for class, and some come to class everyday without something to write with. This year students have had to deal with larger class sizes, some reaching or exceeding 40 students. Even with these challenges our students are learning and excelling. I hope this project can help me help my students succeed.
Analyzing primary and secondary sources can be difficult for students. Turning these sources into puzzles and solving the puzzles into a game or competition can help engage students into the history in ways they have never experienced before.
Most students look at history as memorization of dates and facts they'll never use; history is so much more than that.
Engaging students in history can be difficult. Pick a historic event, give students a few primary and/or secondary sources, and turn their analysis into a competition, and students are all but eating the content up. Breakout Edu Boxes are a great way to engage students in many different types of activities and the extent to which we can use these boxes is endless.
