I teach business and technology to some of the most creative, curious, and innovative students. All of my students are on free lunches. Outside of school, most of the students' lives are affected by the injustice of poverty. My goal is to provide tech experiences to our students to promote 21st century learning and skills with STEAM.
My students are very innovative and creative individuals.
Students in our district often have limited technology experience. My students will begin to discover and cultivate their creativity as they begin to apply their unique gifts and talents and allow them to become the innovators and global leaders of tomorrow with the stories they will be able to create and tell.
My Project
Our students come to school each day knowing that they are supported and encouraged to break out into collaborative and creative learning.
Our high school is full of breakout students wanting to learn financial literacy.
The popularity of escape rooms have inspired many students to problem solve and use ingenuity to face real world situations that apply to their daily lives. Breakout EDU has developed a way to use this playful, exciting model in the classroom environment with kits. These items can be used to create puzzles and treasure hunts for your students to discover content. As a new teacher to my school this year, I knew I wanted to bring Breakout EDU to students to kickstart their problem solving skills and reflect on their learning. My students immediately began to love the use of clues, puzzles and gamification to re-enforce their learning and apply their learning.
However, with the limits constant use of my locks, our Breakouts have become limited to simple Exit Tickets. My project is to bring us an entire new supply of locks, puzzles, tools, boxes and more and to start applying out Breakout Edu to understanding our multitude of Consumer Education, Business Basics and Multimedia skills.
There is so much to love about Breakout EDU. From a student perspective, it was so much fun and the engagement levels were off the charts! My classroom is excited and motivated to learn about a topic that is usually tough to engage their interest in. I want to take Breakout EDU to the next level and have my students become tomorrow's problem solvers in financial literacy and consumer economics.
