My Project
Imagine not being able to say some sounds, like R or L or K. Imagine having to practice saying words with hard sounds in them over and over again for 5 - 30 minutes. That is exactly what my speech students, K-6th grade, do several times a week. It can get pretty monotonous.
The materials I have selected for this project can help bring more interest and motivation to speech practice.
We will be able to use the Vocalic R Articulation cards to practice individual R sounds (AR, IRE, EAR, OR, ER, AIR, etc. ---did you know some people have to practice each of those?) while doing any add-on game or activity. The Wordy Wheels Spinner game will be a new and fun way for my younger students to practice sounds that are difficult to say. And the incentive charts and stickers help them earn prizes for their work.
Some of my students speak quite clearly, but aren't always taken seriously because they can't say R (think Elmer Fudd). Some of my students have 3 or 4 sounds they can't say well. Some of my students make so many speech errors that others can almost never understand what they say. But, all of my students work hard on their speech and I would love to make it as interesting an motivating as I can for them.
