As this was funded at the beginning of the year, I have been able to use the materials several times to support the communication needs of my students. They have loved the pop-up Mario game, and it has helped to keep them engaged while we are doing articulation drills. Articulation drills are not inherently motivating, but my students are motivated to earn a turn to attempt to pop Mario up and they request the game again and again. They also have enjoyed practicing their new speech sounds in conversation by telling jokes from the joke book. It has been significantly more motivating that reading stories (although we still do this as well). \r\n\r\nWith the language toys, I have used them to help preschool and kindergarten students to learn location vocabulary words including \"under\", \"beside\", \"behind\", etc. These concepts are very important in school and in school curriculum and I am so grateful to be able to teach them in fun interactive ways. The students I have used them with were completely engaged with the game and learning felt natural. \r\n\r\nFinally, the magazine holders have been such a help with lesson planning and organizing my materials into the classroom curriculum/themes. Because I do weekly group speech therapy, I need to be able to have a home for the materials and a plan at least a month in advance. The magazine holders have allowed me to plan my year in advance so I am not flying by the seat of my pants and can instead focus on getting the correct core vocabulary words and basic concepts for each monthly unit. The balance beam has provided a valuable and safe way for students to improve their balance and strengthen their legs through dynamic (moving on the beam) and static (balancing while standing with one foot) on the beam. Many of my students have goals of balance to work on throughout the year and we have a balance unit for a few weeks where we specifically work on balance. \r\n\r\nThe speaker allows me to play motivating music for students while they move around the classroom and work on PE skills. One song in particular called \"The Butterfly Song\" has yoga stretches that go along with it and cool students down at the end of class. I have a few students that absolutely love this song and get more excited about it than the rest of class. It is forever stuck in my head after just 1 month of teaching, and I don't recommend getting it stuck in your head.\r\n\r\nThe balloons provide a lighter object for students to strike that are unable to grip a bat and hit a wiffle ball. I also play keepy uppy with some students to get them moving and keeping the balloon in the air. Unfortunately, the school is only able to fund inexpensive earbuds for the students that are not durable and only last a short period of time. So, having the funds to purchase quality headphones has a lasting impact of good for my students.\r\n The most exciting thing about the headphones is that students can hear the lessons and activities they are doing on their ipads. There are a number of apps and tools the students use on their ipads such as supplemental math and reading programs, educational games, Nearpod lessons, etc., Currently, my students do a daily one minute reading fluency timing where they record their retell of a story.
