My fourth grade students have a thirst for knowledge. They use their critical thinking skills in my science class to solve a variety of problems and complete experiments with a small group. Some of their favorite hands-on learning activities are watching a chemical reaction occur while making (and eating) ice cream, creating circuits to power a light bulb, and creating a marble run out of various items found at home. My students are very creative and enjoy a challenge.
Research shows that students learn best and retain information when it is taught in an authentic, meaningful way. The BreakoutEdu kit is similar to the very popular escape rooms. Students will use their critical thinking skills, as well as working as a team, to solve a puzzle in order to open the box. Students need this opportunity to practice communication, team work, and problem solving skills. Teachers have access to a variety of lessons for all grade levels with the purchase of a kit. The kit would allow me to give a meaningful experience to my fourth grade science students.
