"Dare to be greater"- this was the challenge given to students and staff by our principal. Our school provides great educational opportunities to over 450 7th and 8th grade students. What can we do to push the limits? Every day I get to see our students and staff create, explore, and discover new ideas which consistently work towards our goal to be greater.
Our 7th and 8th grade students are smart, talented, and constantly challenging our staff to push the limits of education.
As a teacher, it's incredibly rewarding to work in a district where the students are asking for more. They take pride in their learning, projects, and teachers and because of this, our district is consistently ranked as one of the top school districts in the Kansas City Metro, despite budget restrictions.
Smithville School district is a suburban school district, just north of Kansas City! Our district lines spread out to cover one of the largest land areas of any district in the state which gives us a diverse community of students, both rural and urban of all different financial and social backgrounds. They are tremendous kids and deserve the best!
My Project
Using Breakout EDU boxes will allow my students to work with the curriculum or review content in a new and exciting way. Working in teams, students must use clues and puzzles and work collaboratively to solve the mystery. BreakoutEdu uses locked boxes in different styles, a wide variety of locks, such as directional, word, and digit locks, invisible ink and UV flashlights to read the ink to engage students in the learning as they work together to succeed in unlocking the box.
This Breakout EDU kit will allow my students to become better problem solvers, creative thinkers, and leaders.
It also allows for more participation and student engagement. Throughout the game, students will need to work on tasks that involve ELA, math, science, social studies, music, art and technology. Communicating effectively is another skill worked on in this activity. In the end, with all these positive reasons to play Breakout EDU, it seems to be a no-brainer. I want to make my lessons more exciting and more relevant and Breakout EDU is exactly the way to do it!
