Help me give my students the opportunity to learn how to properly use and maintain professional equipment including a web camera that provides the opportunity for live filming, a green screen and lighting for multiple skin tones.
We are a small, diverse Chicago public school that is growing every year. Due to our growing population, we have been able to add new electives - including Journalism. My journalism students did not all choose to take this class this year, but nevertheless they jumped into the subject and projects with great enthusiasm. The students have been very resourceful with learning how to write and produce broadcast segments using very limited resources!
These delightfully ingenious young journalists are ready and eager for more professional experiences!
Currently, we have been filming on an iPad and they edit on their own computers. We are using desk lamps for lighting. One of our challenges is properly lighting each student's skin tone.
My Project
We created a mock newsroom, however, we are now ready to build a proper broadcast studio. We are in need of new lighting and video equipment to take our work to the next level. This will help us to develop and grow a long term program that will serve many students for multiple years!
We are ready to learn more professional level skills, such as working with a green screen for projections and how to use a camera to film multiple angles.
All the camera equipment we are requesting can be used in the studio or for on-location interviews and event coverage. An extra bonus is that with a new camera, our iPad can be used as a teleprompter!
Properly lighting is another challenge we face, especially with our diverse group of multiple skin tones. Learning how to use different lighting for different people is an important skill. With the proper equipment, students can get hands on experience and develop a skill that could lead to many lucrative career opportunities!
