Help me give my students the opportunities to explore new subjects, new places, new ideas and to be inspired to make a difference through books. Books lead to curiosity, questions and a new-found interests.
My students are risk-takers, innovators, and problem solvers. They are always up for a challenge and never back down. They amaze me each and every day, and they motivate me to be the best I can be, no matter what! Thinking about what is best for our students is the focus of our elementary school. Each teacher goes above and beyond to reach and teach all of our students.
Our teachers are researching and creating lessons that use twenty-first-century learning skills.
Most of the students in our school depend upon the school to provide access to the Internet.
My Project
A Book Flood -Providing opportunities for my students to leave their rural homes and meet new individuals, experience new ideas, think outside the box and develop a curiosity for learning through books. Each book I have selected for this project will make my students question, desire to research the subject matter more, and share their newfound knowledge with others. I will be using these books with interactive slides for distant learning as well as in-class learning.
These books will be portals for my students to step into and get lost in new learning experiences.
Darcy Pattison who is the author of many of the books I chose because she has an incredible ability to pick nonfiction subjects and turn them into a portal for my students to get lost in. Nefertiti, the Spidernaut: The Jumping Spider Who Learned to Hunt in Space (Another Extraordinary Animal) is a great example. I used this book during our first school shut down last March. My students read the book, read an article about Neferiti, and watched a video about the real spider. My students minds were blown after researching and reading about the Spidernaut. It inspired my students to see what other creatures have been sent to space. This also brought space travel in the forefront of their minds. In-person or virtual these books will continue to touch lives for many years.
