Breaking Geodes and Testing Rocks!

Help me give my students items to study rocks and minerals, along with understanding of the rock cycle.

My Students

Throughout the day, I see 150 very different individuals, all trying to figure out where they fit in. My middle school science students are a diverse group, coming from various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds, and with various levels of learning comprehension. A large number of students in my classes have various emotional, physical, mental, and medical challenges.

Many of my students are trying to learn how to manage all the changes to themselves, balance home and school, all while learning their role in society.

Now we have the added pressure of staying safe while learning.

My Project

I need materials to allow my students to test the properties of rocks as a lab in class. Due to covid-19, I need more supplies than normal to make the labs safe for my students.

To help my students understand rock formation, rock properties, as well as minerals, I need sets for students to do tests to determine hardness as well as geodes for students to break open.

These hands-on opportunities are what get the kids excited about science as well as retaining what we are learning.
