My Project
I teach an incredible group of culturally diverse 8th grade students who bring unique perspectives, experiences, and voices to our classroom. Many of my students are multilingual learners, first-generation Americans, or refugees, and they thrive when engaging with literature that reflects their identities, challenges their thinking, and sparks meaningful discussions.
I'm requesting copies of Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds because this novel, written in verse, is both accessible and powerful.
It explores themes of grief, decision-making, and systemic issues in a way that resonates deeply with students. The novel’s format and storytelling style encourage even reluctant readers to engage, fostering a love for literature and strengthening their analytical skills.
With these books, my students will develop critical reading and discussion skills through a text that speaks to their realities. They will explore social-emotional themes that encourage empathy, self-reflection, and civic engagement.
My goal is to provide my students with literature that feels relevant, empowering, and thought-provoking. Your support will help ensure they have access to books that inspire them to think critically and use their voices to create change.
Thank you for believing in the power of stories to transform learning!
