Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My children often come to school hungry. Our school provides them with breakfast, but sometimes they are late to school and miss it. Sometimes, they are not ready to eat or they just need a little bit more in their bellies at recess. When children are hungry, it is hard for them to concentrate on school. They are worried about their next meal. Focusing on academics doesn't mean as much to them because their stomachs are aching. I don't ever want a child to go hungry. I do not want them to worry about food. This grant is a request to provide my students with breakfast cereals, breakfast bars, and snacks to make it through our school day.

Granola bars, cereal, and snacks will provide my students with food in their tummies to help them concentrate and focus throughout the school day.

Even friendships, behavior, and social interactions will be easier when hunger is removed from the equations.

The table at the door of my classroom has our "breakfast bar" to provide my children with food throughout the day, for whenever they are hungry. We have fruit from the cafeteria. I would love to add grains and snacks that are both nutritious and delicious to our classroom so that my children will be able to eat when they are hungry to help them focus on our lessons. Lunch ends at 12:20. The school day ends after 3:00. Sometimes, that afternoon is long and we just need a little energy to get through the day.
