Help me give my students the opportunity to join our Breakfast Book Club. We will read and review the "Magnolia Children's Choice" nominations monthly. "Global" is the most expensive book I am requesting.

My Project

I am a "first-year" librarian at Rod Paige Middle School in Monticello, MS. Our school is comprised of grades 6th-8th. We have a library that is readily available to all the students. I recently attended the Fay B. Kaigler's Children's Book Festival. I was introduced to a project I am excited to develop at our school for the 2024-2025 school year.

I would love to create a community of book lovers at our school.

I believe literacy is important to all the subject areas. Our book club will meet monthly. On the first Monday of each month, students will have the opportunity to win one of ten books to be given away for each month's reading engagement. Links will be given to the public library and Amazon for non-book winners who are interested in joining. Winners of the ten books will also have the opportunity to share their book with classmates who wish to read that particular "book of the month". On the last Friday of the month, the club will meet to enjoy breakfast together while discussing the book. We will follow this same pattern for September- February.

The books that have been chosen are "The Magnolia Children's Choice Award" nominations for grades 6th -8th. The students will have the opportunity in February to cast their vote for their favorite book. The winners will be announced at the Fay B. Kaigler Children's Book Festival in April 2025. I'm eager for our students/school to be part of this selection process.  

I am petitioning for donations to help with the expense of the books that will be put into the hands of our students. My goal for this project is to instill a love of reading and also enhance communication and social skills through book discussions.
