My Project
The students that attend my school are extraordinary students who love to learn. Many of the students here utilize art as an outlet of expression. By providing our Breakfast After the Bell cart, we can ensure kids have the nutrition they need to focus on their learning! The demographics at our school are diverse: Forty-eight percent African American, six percent Hispanic, forty-two percent Caucasian and over seventy-four percent are economically disadvantaged. Our students are capable and eager. I’m asking for snacks to keep our breakfast after the bell area stocked up for any student who checks in after the start of the school day but has not yet had breakfast.
The best part about this project is that students are responsible for maintaining the breakfast after the bell area.
They stock the shelves, check expiration dates, and ensure it is ready and welcoming for anyone who may need to visit. This aligns with our school's Leader in Me habits, being proactive, synergizing, and sharpening the saw by making students work on organization, and teamwork to ensure their physical needs are met.
This project is important because it helps meet students' basic needs so they can be the best learners possible. It also can be considered community service as it relieves parents of added stress when they are running behind. Our school is not located near many places that would offer breakfast. If students are running late and their parents can stop for food, the only place that provides food within 3 miles of our school is a gas station.
We are so excited to have the tools we need to eliminate students going to class hungry due to circumstances outside of their control.
