Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Imagine students finishing their assigned work and tasks earning the privilege to reward their hard work with gaming time! I am requesting accessories for our gaming systems to continue our radical method of motivating students to actively engage in their learning. Surveying both our adults and students, both agreed that the Nintendo Switch would be the most effective gaming system to have in our school setting.

When asked if they completed their work to the best of their ability and teacher satisfaction, students agreed that playing video games after would be a welcome treat.

Too often, we as adults make decisions for students without asking or including them. I wanted this to be different. I asked students what would motivate them to learn. Resoundingly, the response was video games. To empower and engage our students in their learning, we have to listen to them and their needs. We must fulfill their social and emotional needs to the best of our abilities. Allowing them to voice their opinions, be heard, and be validated will be extremely beneficial to their functioning for a long time.

If these resources (the games and controllers) motivate at least one student to change their work habits, I will feel accomplished. My goal for as long as I have been and will remain at our elementary school is to make all attempts to meet the needs of our students and support their learning in all possible ways.
