Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 5th grade in a Title I school, with diverse learners. Some of my students are classified gifted while others were previously EL learners. My students understand that I will push them to be the best that they can, but while giving them support and making the learning fun.
My Project
Teaching remotely is quite challenging and one of the things that I miss most is reading books as a class. While reading from a shared screen is fine, I want my students to get the full experience by reading along in a physical book.
I have chosen the book CHAINS by Laurie Halse Anderson.
This is the story of a 13 year old enslaved girl and her sister who help fight The American Revolution while also fighting for their freedom. This is a culturally relevant book that tells history from a different point of view and one that is important for my students to hear.
