Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Imagine all students having the opportunity to independently read books! Learning to read is unnatural and not what our brain was programed to do, so help me provide the best supports possible to get my students to break the reading code. I am a 5th grade teacher who will get students who have not yet figured out how to break the alphabetic code and are striving to read grade level texts. These readers are not yet ready to independently read grade level texts but still deserve opportunities to read independently. The decodable texts I am asking for are specifically designed for older elementary readers who are still perfecting the craft of breaking the code of reading. The books are filled with adventures and real life representation but are filled with words that students are learning to read. The texts I am requesting are accessible for any striving reader to pick up and find a comfy corner to independently read in. The books they choose, I know they will be able to independently decode and comprehend, giving them the super power of breaking the reading code! I am also requesting some quick tools that will help students encode and spell but make it kinesthetic and fun! Learning to spell can be filled with movement and joy.

Help me prepare my striving 5th grades to becoming more fluent, independent, and incredible readers by providing these decodable texts!
