Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I haven't met my students yet this year, but the school was created for students that do not "fit in" at traditional public schools. We specialize in positive behavior support for students that perform well in traditional school settings. Our students are often low income, special needs, transient, or homeless.

Many students are on the Autism spectrum, have an attention deficit, or just come from unstable home environments (or all of the above) which makes teaching difficult, but at the same time super rewarding because I am able to get through all of that and help a child understand.

I have had groups of students whose needs varied wildly; from students reading at middle school levels to 10 year olds reading at a prekindergarten level.

My Project

With this escape room kit and platform access my students will use problem solving skills while learning. Students will learn to work as a team and to communicate while they make lasting educational connections. Our classroom will be the talk of the school and students will be excited to come to school every day.

Students will be up out of their seats, exploring, collaborating, solving, and learning.

With your donation, I hope to add more interest to my science curriculum. With access to Breakout EDUs platform students will also be able to experience escape rooms for all subjects and even some just for fun.
