Break-free from traditional learning with BreakoutEDU!
My students need Breakout EDU boxes, UV lights/markers and extra locks to enhance opportunities to collaborate, create, communicate, and think critically. The bolt cutter is needed just in case, and will be safely used by the teacher.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a Comprehensive Special Education Program.
My student population consists of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disabilities and Intellectual Disabilities.
Working with this population can be difficult, but it is super rewarding within this environment. I teach the most interesting, well-behaved, scholars ever! My school is a student-centered environment filled with "World-Class Teachers"! This will be my fifth year but on day one, I knew this school was home. As a team, we are continuously brainstorming ways to evolve as educators, and we are also advocates for family involvement in the learning process!
My Project
Let’s breakout of the traditional learning model and make learning fun, meaningful, and engaging! Breakout Edu was developed as a gaming experience that educators can use to engage learners of all ages. It uses locks, invisible markers/UV flashlights, timers, safes, and locked boxes, along with story lines, puzzles, and codes. The latter three tools can be developed by teachers to integrate any content. There are also games that are shared and already developed on the Breakout Edu site and in various Breakout Edu user groups on social media. In the game, students are introduced to a problem that incites them to grapple with puzzles and challenges in order to unlock related locks. Students must work as a team in order to ultimately open the final lock and solve the game. Our world demands that people are skilled collaborators, problem-solvers, critical-thinkers, who can persevere through challenges. This game allows for students to improve these skills, while also learning required content. I am asking for two starter kits, a variety of locks, and UV flashlights/markers, in order to create Breakout Edu experience where my learners can collaboratively BREAKOUT a variety of academic challenge games.
