My Project
This project will allow my students to expand their knowledge of the country of Brazil and the festival of Carnival. Brazil is the largest country in South America. Brazil is the world's fifth-largest country by area and the seventh-most populous. The Carnival of Brazil is an annual festival held the Friday afternoon before Ash Wednesday at noon, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter. In the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and Vitoria, huge organized parades are held each year led by samba schools. The parades are competitions, with a winner chosen by judges every year. Many of the dancers in the samba school parades wear decorative masks. The colors and style of the mask represent specific and important aspects of Brazilian culture. They also assist samba schools with standing out and representing their themes for the festival.
Learning about geography helps us explore and understand our world, recognizing the great differences in cultures, landscapes, and environments across the world.
Upon completion of their artwork, students will exhibit their work in the school library and, in some cases, in the district art show. After that time, the students will take their artwork home. Throughout this project, the students will demonstrate design concepts and principles by using elements of art, such as line, shape, texture, and value. This project will enable my students to learn about the culture and history of Brazil.
