Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students at my institution go above and beyond. They always do what is asked of them, but most of them truly go above and beyond what is expected. A good majority of my students come from outside the district to attend this school because of the high level of learning that takes place behind the doors. I think that says something of the teachers, parents, but most importantly, the students.

My school also does not have a lot of music supplies, and my students deserve all the resources they can get their hands on. Unfortunately, there are no performing ensembles at my school, so any supplies received from here will be a huge benefit for my scholars.

My Project

The sopranino, alto, tenor, and bass recorders will be used to create a recorder consort in our school. Our school does not offer band, choir, or orchestra. All music classes are general music. By utilizing these "auxiliary" recorders, I can turn my general music classrooms into an ensemble that can perform, much like a band or choir would. The recorder is a simple instrument that does not take much training to play or much care to maintain. which is perfect for beginners.

With the addition of these recorders, I can transform my general music class into a recorder ensemble.

My goal is to demonstrate the recorder to all my general music classes, showing them what the instrument is capable of doing. I can show them pop arrangements of songs to grab their interest, staying that we can play music like that with some dedicated practice. Everyone would start out playing soprano recorder, and I would gradually start introducing the new instruments until we have a full recorder ensemble that can perform at our school!
