Help me give my students tools to help them understand how the brain learns!

My Students
My students live in a Utah town in a low-income neighborhood. Hardworking parents often don't have time or don't know how to fully support learning at home. Frequently, the effects of poverty manifest in a child's inability to focus and tune out distractions which are skills needed for learning.
My students love learning and are committed to building a better future through hard work and practice!
Title I schools face the challenges of poverty that other schools do not. Research is documenting the impact that poverty has on education. Nearly 60% of students in our school receive free or reduced-price meals. A third are native Spanish speakers. My students need a school that understands their special challenges and intervenes to help.
We are preparing today's students for the jobs of tomorrow. Essentially, we are teaching students the ways to think critically and not just training them on vocational skills. I do not even know what jobs we will need in thirty years, but I do know that they need to read, do the math, think analytically, and problem solve.
My Project
Studies show that students with greater self-regulation have higher grades and better success in school and jobs. There is no better time to start understanding how the brain works than elementary school, and self-regulation means knowing what do to improve learning.
When we pair brain-friendly environments with students who want to learn, we maximize success.
Spaced practice, randomized practice, and visual images are all ways that improve long term retention. We also know that concrete learning and hands-on-learning is highly effective because allowing students the chance to interact with manipulatives like the human brain model makes abstract learning more concrete. Learning about the brain's capacity will aide learners throughout their lives.
