Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a low income and mostly Hispanic area. These students do not have access to many things that other students have such as technology or parents who speak English. Many of these students do not have the help at home, that they need. Many of them are struggling students, with struggling parents at home.
Our school is located in a melting pot area.
We have students from all over here in Miami. Many students also come from single parent families. All of these challenges only makes it harder for students to want to succeed, but it is our job to make sure that they do!
My Project
Students have the opportunity to eat free lunch in school. Yet, most students get here late and don't get that chance. They don't eat a complete breakfast and then are starving and thinking of food until lunch time, which for our class isn't til 12:15.
Having these snacks available for students who are hungry will not only allow them to quench their hunger but will allow them to better focus in class.
There are also students who do not get home after school because they do to aftercare until they are picked up. Giving students snacks to take home at the end of the day will allow them to eat something before they can have dinner.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
