My Project

At the conclusion of each year, students in West Virginia, grades three through eleven, participate in a summative assessment. Fifth graders are tested a day each of math, reading, writing, and science. I like to give each student a bag with a few mints and other hard candies to have since the test can last for several hours. The mechanical pencils are an upgrade from regular pencils that often break and need replaced mid-test.

Students that have issues sitting still and quiet for quite possibly multiple hours, often benefit from peppermints and gum because it keeps their little minds busy.

I enjoy refilling their bags each day and refreshing them with the snacks that they enjoy. They don't understand that the flavor of peppermint and the constant chewing of gum is actually beneficial to their thought process and can help keep their attention on the task at hand.
