This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students in my class are full of excitement and eager to learn. For most, it is their first experience in school. They have been waiting to enter Kindergarten! Unfortunately, due to lack of funding, they have little supplies in the school. I have been teaching for many years and have asked for cardstock from the school site, I have been denied the request. In the many years of teaching, I know that students, teachers, and the home are important for success in school. I want to be able to bridge the gap between home and school by providing them with resources that can be utilized to meet that necessity.
The cardstock will be used to create flashcards for letter names, letter sounds, numbers, shapes, and games.
During the introduction of the alphabet students have a difficult time identifying letters and by providing them with durable copies on cardstock students will be able to have access to the opportunity to practice with family members at home. One example of the use of the cardstock, I will teach students how to use the cards in the school setting, they will then take them home and have them accessible for daily use and review.
I like to engage students in small group lessons and use flashcards where they are learning critical literacy and math skills while playing games.
