This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I elementary school in Texas, where most of the students are from low-income households and receive free breakfast and lunch. Their resilience and determination to learn makes me so proud. These kids are smart and funny and such creative and silly thinkers and they bring me joy and laughter every single day.

I love teaching elementary kids because I love seeing my students starting to develop their own independent personalities and it makes me so happy to feel that I have contributed in even a small way to the great people that they are growing up to be!

They challenge me every single day and they inspire me to work as hard as I can and to remember that they are learning how to be a person and a student by watching me.

My Project

I teach at a Title 1 school in Texas where a majority of students participate in the free/reduced lunch program. While the students are at school, they get hot breakfast and lunch every single day so that when they get to class they are comfortable and ready to learn! Unfortunately, for many students, school is where getting hot and nutritious meals ends. Many students go home to no food or food of poor nutritional value after school, on weekends, and during holidays.

That is why building a food pantry in our school that students and guardians have access to when they need it is so important.

With your donations, we will be able to make sure that students get food and snacks that they need over weekends, during holidays, and when they are absent for extended periods of time, such as with covid. The goal is to prepare backpacks to send home with students over the weekend filled with food and for guardians to know that the pantry is available if there is a need at home.

We will continue to stock the pantry by having food drives throughout the year at school. Your donations will help get us off to the great start that we need.
