This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my second year as a teacher in a large, urban elementary school. Working with students that come from low-income homes has its challenges. However, I wouldn't want to work anywhere else! In my Title I school in Virginia, 100% of our students receive free lunch and breakfast and 87% of the student body is a minority group. They come from some tough backgrounds but still continue to work hard and do all that they can to learn. I truly love what I do and I'm grateful to have such a great community of learners in my class and in our school!
DonorsChoose.org has helped bring supplies to our classroom that we couldn't have any other way.
I want my students to know that they are important. They deserve the best materials. No matter what.
My Project
My students live in very difficult circumstances. I have homeless students in my class who do not have any food outside of the school walls. The only food they eat comes from the school cafeteria. They NEED food while they are at school. Some days, we have a snack provided through a grant, but other days I provide snack myself. With many hungry students, I also send snacks home on the weekend with multiple students.
The cost of personally buying food for my students is a stretch for my limited budget but is worth every penny.
I've selected a variety of snacks so that there is something for everyone, and every allergy, in my class.
Please consider helping provide my students with snacks. Together we can battle childhood hunger in America.
