Brain Food Needed to Fuel Our Brains!

My students need snacks during the school day and in the after school program to keep them focused and motivated!

My Students

My students are our future! I work in a inner-city school in Buffalo, NY. My student are very diverse in abilities and age. I teach 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts. My students range from 12-17 years of age. My school is a unique setting in that it is an Alternative School. My students are rare in that they can't function in a typical school classroom. Therefore, they're placed within our school which offers a safe, structured, small class setting, with more individualized attention and support.

Although we're are an Alternative School, my students are still very important to society and have many goals and aspirations.

Our school provides the students behavioral and academic strategies to prepare them to successfully reach their highest potential.

The students benefit greatly from differentiated instruction. Poor attendance has been an issue in my school. I try to make my lessons interesting and fun so that my students are eager to come to class each day and challenge themselves.

My Project

The donation of various snack options will definitely help to make a difference in my students learning, as well as improve their school lives. All students in my school receive free lunch. They often complain during the day and at our after school program of being hungry. I believe that their hunger often contributes to their ability to focus. To be able to provide them with a simple snack would go along way in their eyes. In creating a caring and safe environment, I would love to be able to feed their bellies, which in turn will fuel their brains.
