Brain Food for the Future of Science

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Over 70% of our student body receives free or reduced lunch. The students who do venture to the cafeteria for lunch have to compete with 250 other students to get to the cafeteria, get in the line, have their food trays prepared, then sit and eat in less than 25 minutes. They often do not finish their lunches, and they return to class hungry and unsatisfied.

My goal for this project is to build a surplus of snacks in my classroom that my students can eat when they need the nourishment or just a little more fuel to get them through the end of the day.

My students are special because they work hard to achieve greatness, and, even though they may fall short, they continue to try their best. They are minority students at a Title I school. We don't always have everything we need for our students, and they don't have everything they need for themselves, but I can--with your help--make sure they don't have empty stomachs.
