Help me give my students some new engaging/hands on experiences and keep up the intrinsic motivation they each demonstrate by having a sensory table in the classroom.
My students come for inner city Toledo and struggle to have the basic necessities. Students come to me to not only provide them to learn but as and sometimes their only consistency. I want to provide my students not only a safe, loving/caring environment but a place where their engaged and offered many opportunities to grow.
After the last year of teaching I was ready to find a new career.
I thought to give teaching one more year. This year will be different I thought. I went to a new school and WOW has it been different. All the reasons why I went into teaching came back. The class and my students have brought my high energy into everyday and I'm not sure who loves coming to school more them or me. They LOVE to learn and come in everyday ready to work hard! Having these different supplies will only enrich their environment and keep excited alive.
My Project
Having a sensory table in the classroom will allow students to actively use their senses as they explore their world. I will change these out monthly to keep the engagement alive.
The free choice toys of the doctors kit, the connectors, and the vehicles allows children to use play to build social skills that are an important aspect of life skills.
The hands on games such as the addition pop and the initial sounds game will not only teach academics in a fun and engaging way. It will teach social skills to students: to take turns, patience, conflict resolution, etc.
