My Students

There are 18 PreK students in my class who represent several different cultures. Three of the students have already been identified as having a special need; however, that does not keep them from interacting with their peers and learning new skills and information.

The students enjoy participating in learning activities that involve body movements.

As many of my students are bilingual, movement is a universal language. This makes it easier for them to communicate with all students in the classroom without the fear of not being understand due to language barriers. Students tend to be more engaged in activities when they are able to move around within the large group area instead of always having to sit in one place.

My Project

The Choosy Kids Active Learning Kit will help develop my students fundamental motor skills. This will in turn help spark the brain, build the body, and improve behavior to increase academic performance.

Activities that make us move also make us think.

It is almost impossible for students to sit completely still for an entire lesson. By implementing brain breaks and a brain dance, my students will develop brain/ body balance, improve their working memory, be less fidgety and more focused, regulate their moods, and reduce stress. The yoga mats will help to define each students' space while participating in the brain dance as well as other movement activities.

Movement also facilitates cognition, so academic concepts will then be paired with simple movements with the goal of increasing student learning. In order for student data to improve, you have got to get them to move.
