Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
What I love most about my students is their resilience, curiosity, and the rich cultural backgrounds they bring into the classroom. Many of my students are multilingual and come from immigrant families, and they thrive when given creative, hands-on opportunities to connect their lived experiences to what we’re learning in Spanish class. They want to see the world beyond their neighborhood, and they long to build bridges between cultures—starting with their own.
As a Spanish teacher, my goal is to create a learning environment where students feel safe, supported, and excited to explore language and culture.
The "Brain Bridge: Connecting Cultures" project aims to help students engage deeply through art, collaborative projects, and reflective language tasks that make connections between their home languages, English, and Spanish.
Every resource will make a difference in their learning path. For example, sharpeners, pencils, crayons, and markers will ensure that no student ever has to worry about not having common materials —something so basic, yet essential. Many students can’t afford consistent supplies, so this will allow everyone to participate equally every day. These help students take pride in their visual language work.
Also, with limited outlets in our classroom, this power strip helps keep laptops and devices charged for digital projects and presentations.
In terms of health, a clean classroom is a healthy and welcoming one. With so many students in one room, tissues are essential to maintaining comfort and health, especially during allergy season or colds. It’s a small but important part of classroom care. On the other hand, food can be a powerful motivator and equalizer. I use snacks as positive reinforcement, for celebrations, and to help hungry students focus.
Each item on this list is intentionally chosen to remove barriers, foster creativity, and keep students focused and motivated.
